The P4 class really enjoyed the Young Enterprise Programme on ‘Our Community’ delivered by Orla. They discovered what a ‘community’ is and identified people, jobs, shops and activities within the community. They enjoyed plenty of discussion in deciding what type of shop could fill the ‘empty shop’ in the community scene. All pupils were given the opportunity to vote and a ‘Shoe shop’ was the most popular choice. They also learnt about the importance of paying taxes. They then designed their own imaginary community in pairs identifying the needs and wants of a community. This workshop definitely developed thinking, communication, numeracy skills and teamwork.
