Primary 1 and Reception Investigate Ice
The Primary 1and Reception enjoyed investigating how to defrost ice. As part of our Polar Explorers topic we have investigated ice. Pip the Penguin asked us to help out his ‘Frozen’ friends. A polar bear, seal and walrus had been frozen in some ice. Pip asked the children to help him free his friends. They we able to come up with some suggestions to free them. We decided that the sun might heat up the ice and thaw it out, so we left one ice block in the windowsill to melt. We added some salt to one and left it in a shaded area and finally we left one block of ice to thaw with no heat or salt. The children were able to predict that the block of ice using salt would melt the fastest. We observed the blocks of ice throughout the day and found that the salt melted the ice the quickest.
