The Primary 1 children had a great time exploring addition by combining two sets. They began by arranging the Numicon pieces in order. They explored the numbers before/ after and in-between within 10 and also adding on 1 more using the Numicon.
The children worked with their partner to solve some addition problems by combining two sets. They were able to discuss their work using the mathematical language for addition such as add, equal and altogether. They checked their answers using the Numicon pieces.
Once they had explored addition the children were challenged to find the missing Numicon piece to make the Numicon number sentence.
